BMW SA - we’ll only be green if the govt. forces us

Greencars’ article on the clean-running upcoming MINI was one of the most popular stories in this Web site’s short history, so clearly you found the technology intriguing. After posting the article, I thought I’d better verify some facts, so I contacted BMW SA to find out whether we’d be receiving clean MINIs in South Africa.

I’ve just received this correspondence from BMW SA:

Dear Carl

We acknowledge receipt of your e-mail dated 29 May 2007 and apologise the delay in response.

Kindly be advised that these options will not be available in South Africa. These options will only be available in certain countries where there are strict laws on CO2 emissions.

We trust the above meets with your approval.

We thank you for your time and patience in this regard and assure you of our best attention at all times.

Yours faithfully

BMW (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd

How would “the above” meet with your approval? :/

I was wondering the exact same thing.

That sounds like a clueless PR response - perhaps they’re mixing up CO2 regulations with diesel quality?
