Fiat 500: 5 Star Euro NCAP video
Fiat’s all-new 500, launched in July exactly 50 years after its legendary predecessor has just scored full marks in Europe’s stringent NCAP tests. The 500 scored 35 points overall, making it the new leader in its class, as well as the shortest car to achieve 5 stars. Fiat claims that the car was design to achieve a EuroNCAP six star rating when that standard becomes implemented in the future. Active safety is good too - 500’s apparently have great handling and come standard with an electronic stability programme (ESP). Check out the vid after the jump:
The diminutive 500 has generated significant hype world-wide due to its cheeky styling, high spec list, customisable interior and exterior and of course the reputation of the original 500. The car seems to have lived up to expectations too, receiving some very positive reviews.
Two things about the 500 are of particular interest to GreenCars - firstly, all three engine derivatives (1.2 and 1.4 petrol, 1.3 diesel) already meet 2009’s Euro 5 emissions standards; also the 500 will be making its way to the USA. This car should make quite an impact the Americans’ perception of small cars, hopefully convincing many people to ditch their guzzlers.
