Hybrid Cayenne on the cards

When the Porsche Cayenne came out a few years ago, many pundits were shocked that the marque had brought out an SUV. I wonder what they would’ve thought if they’d been told that in a few years’ time there would be a hybrid Porsche SUV on the roads?

The lads from Weissach are clearly starting to feel the heat of European legislation, especially the proposed CO2 emissions figures of 130g/km manufacturer fleet average for 2012. According to German automotive researchers, DAT, current Cayennes emit between 320 and378 g/km depending on the model.

Apparently, the Cayenne Hybrid will reduce fuel consumption to just under 9l/100km (I’m not sure whether this is a urban, extra-urban or combined figure) and it will be able to drive on electric only power up till a rather impressive 120km/h.

The Cayenne Hybrid is slated to launch in late ‘09. I’ll update the details as they become available.
