Yes, we’re back from a lengthy beer-and-braai-filled absence. Thanks for your patience everybody - I trust you all had as relaxing of a holiday as I did.
There is much to look forward to in the year ahead, especially due to the fact that a number of the vehicles that we’ve been looking forward to over the past months (or years *cough* Tesla *cough*) are actually going to be hitting the roads in ‘08. One of those cars is the Aptera Type 1, which was recently driven by the LA Times. Below the fold, check out the video of the Aptera on the streets.

Hi Carl, enjoying your blog, thanx. Is there any EV options (read cars) available in SA. According to this article you think we will have two suppliers this year [2008] http://www.thetimes.co.za/PrintEdition/News/Article.aspx?id=678454
Somewhere you said
You mentioned somewhere last year that you would look into the legislature of EV’s in SA (what import duties etc. are applicabe if you import one), did you manage to find out perhaps.
Regards

Hi Johan, I’ve spoken to Antony English from e-Motion, and he’s unaware of any legislations against electric vehicles operating on S.A. roads.
Somebody actually pointed out that the old milk trucks used to be electric, so maybe it’s not a problem to have EVs on the road. I’m currently trying to get an official answer, but it’s always difficult getting replies from government.
