Tata Nano in South Africa - update

I’ve managed to get in touch with Tata SA regarding their $2500.00 Nano. While the answer I received wasn’t very informative, at least it’s something.

Here’s what Dean Thomas, Tata SA Sales & Marketing Manager, had to say:

The car is only going to be launched towards the end of the year in India, and only after that will they consider the export of it as well as things like specifications etc.

This is going to be a long process logistically before anything is available for us to tell you, so please bear with us.

I’ve asked Mr. Thomas to keep GreenCars in touch with any new developments, so stay tuned for more info.

Tata Nano - Not Green!

Simply put, creating a vehicle that takes more people off bikes and into fossil fuel vehicles (at a price that obviously does not include environmental costs) is obviously not green. This is probably a very bad thing for the environment.

You could argue that the Nano takes people off very dirty 2 stroke bikes that don’t conform to any emissions regulations at all. Apparently the Nano’s Euro 4 compliant, although I’m waiting for confirmation on this.

Danson Joseph, do you use a fossil fuel vehicle or a bicycle?

I am waiting for the Nano to launch here in India. Would possibly grab one for myself and of what I have heard, Tata has claimed that they are less pollutant than the 2 wheelers we have here.

i would like to know when is the Tata Nano coming to SA and how about do i go to buy one and the price in Rand form

please reply

How do I get to buy the Tata Nano? it is very interesting to have this car especially for saving petrol, pls send me the information about this car and prices in rand form.

I have this great site bookmarked. Thanks Kredit

Danson Joseph, if you are worried about the Nano not being too green, why not make use of solar power to charge the tank with air? Awaiting the launch in suspense!

If the previous Tata’s in SA are anything to go by - heaven help us if they bring in a vehicle which costs a fraction of what they have charged for the Tata Telcoline bakkie. See my webpage at www.tataproblems.co.za

finally we get to own a car. i feel the sceptics are bent at denying the masses a chance to own their own car. come on, this is it . power to the people

the people that say that this is not a green car are all absolute idiots as this car carry 4 people in it, It has a 2 piston 4 stroke 625cc motor most cars have 1100cc motors in them with 4 pistons so one normal car puts out the emissions of two nano’s and thus 4 people with 125cc motorbikes can all drive in one car and most small bikes are 2 stoke which means that they drive on a oil petrol mixture which is not good for global warming and this cheap car will remove most taxis on south African roads which are the cause of most south African accidents so why have a 3litre or 3000cc car that can carry 4-5 passengers and gets you about 9km\L when you could own a nano that gets you 20km\L and has the same load capacity and as for it being too slow reduced speeds = less fatal accidents so I think that this is the ideal car for students or the perfect car for parent to buy their kids instead of a 2 wheel death trap and I will beat you any kind of money that the nano is safer than any bike

Hi… I’m sorry to hear about all the green stuff and so on but really now we all need vechiles and yes we all want cars…. so when will it fin. be here?

what will the price be in suoth africa

Price will start at around 17K

i bet that all those who say this car isnt green because it will get too many people on the road, do not have to drive on a bus for 4hours each day and wait around until busses come by. i need to leave my house at 6am every morning and only get home at 7pm and the saddest part is that my class times are only from 8:30am to 4pm.

I am very interested in Buying this car.
When will it be in South Africa and what will the price be and where will I be able to get one?

What is the price for the one with all the extras?

WILL IT BE POSSIBLE TO GO FOR THE ELECTRC MOTOR?

When will the Tata Nano be available in South Africa and at what price will it sell?

“Will this vehicle ever hit the south African roads?”

Hey!!

Good news- I just spoke to the TATA dealer in Boksburg. Spoke to a guy called Pedro. He says the Nano will be available in SA by the end of 2010.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel….

it is a exellent car, atleast the poor will also be able to purchase a motor vehicle. Dont put tata down for brining such a cheap car . they care about all
