Tata/MDI air car - info

Last year already, Tata Motors signed a deal with the MDI Group to work together on an air car. The video below demostrates the MDI Citycat in action, and explains quite nicely how the technology works - it’s just a pity that the presenter sounds like Eric Bana’s character in The Castle.

Apparently, Tata will be manufacturing vehicles for MDI, and it seems to me that the Citycat will be an entirely MDI designed affair. However, looking at this page on MDI’s site reveals the Minicat (bottom of page). Is it just me or does the Minicat look quite a bit like Tata’s Nano? Maybe we’ll see air powered Nano’s in the future at a very affordable price?

Here’s another question - will these be Tata-made, MDI-branded cars, or will MDI license the tech to be used as Tata branded cars?

Oh, and I almost forgot: according to this article, South Africa is one of only 12 countries that MDI has confirmed will be receiving air cars.

The OneCAT Air Car will be at the New York Auto Show Mar 21-30. Go to http://www.catvolution.com/2008-ny-auto-show-eng.php or http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/CATvolution/ for more information.

I think that it is for the moment, the best idea for a city car.

Its Feb 2009 and still no air car avaulable in South Africa.
