The Antidote on Greenwashing

Greenwashing is the practice of brainwashing the public into believing that an organisation has the concerns of the environment at heart - oil companies and motor manufacturers are particularly adept at this practise. Given the current high profile of environmental issues - and global warming in particular - it’s becoming an increasingly powerful marketing tool these days. Andreas over at The Antidote has written an very interesting article on Greenwashing, from a South African perspective. As consumers, it’s all too wasy to fall for the green hype that’s generated by corporate spin doctors, so I highly recommended this article. Find it here.

Good to discover this site. I was interested to read your article on electric bikes, which I recently fell in love with; follow my site link for a blog entry.

How about some more info on the choices that face ordinary folks trying to find the greenest of the dire options that face most of us here in South Africa, where most people aren’t yet even beginning to think greenness as a criterion for car purchases.

I’ve just been told my old wreck’s up for replacement, so now need to start looking seriously at this isse.

I was interested to read the other day, for example, that the new VW Polo Blue Motion is, though a non-hybrid, more energy efficient than the Prius.

Unfortunately, a Blue Motion is a little outside my budget!

Hi David,

Please check out my comment on your blog re. the best (current) green car option for SA consumers.
